Reggae/Dancehall artiste Beky Glacier is currently on the island shooting scenes for a new video to promote his World Cup Football inspired single entitled, Yea Oh! The track is up-tempo, fun and exciting and Beky is confident it will have a lasting impression in the local dancehalls. The former Calabar High school student was born and raised in Warrieka Hills on Glasspole Avenue, Rockfort St. Andrew. He migrated to the US in the early 90s and would have become popularly known as Beky Don on Flatbush, Queens New York where he reside "you waan see me always a hol a vibes, always singing or deejaying and before I knew it, I became the infamous Jamaican 'singer' on the block. Everyone knew me and encourage me to get in the industry full time so her I am, that's how I got started" he said. Beky attended the Erasmus Hall High school with fellow Jamaican and popular artiste Shaggy on Flatbush and Church. He won multiple talent contests and performed at the infamous Apollo Theatre in Harlem.
An ardent football fan and player of the sport himself, Beky Glacier recalls how he got his name, "well me government name is Karim Beckett and you know when yah play ball and man a shout Beckett! Beckett! till dat tek too long fi call so man just start say Beky and you know Glacier now dat mean me icy, hot" he concluded laughing aloud.
Beky Glacier has recorded and released several singles as well as a 17 track album entitled, 'Relentless.' He stay true to his Jamaican roots and draw comparisons between his life in the harsh Rockfort community and Flatbush. He's soft spoken but sings with big vocals that are melodious, clear and blends well on a rhythm whether it's Reggae, Dancehall or a fusion between both genres.
Beky is about to release another album but paused to promote 'Yea Oh!' "due to di vibes it have enuh and everybody who hear it a say dem love it" he said. As the momentum builds for the World Cup Football competition, Yea Oh is expected to grow with intensity and further strengthen that football vibe carried across the island every four year 'it's that type of song that unifies, something I can't stress to much because no matter where I go or where I nothing feels better to me than the love and encouragement me get from yaad."
